Averil carried out her undergraduate dental training at the University of Otago, New Zealand, graduating with Distinction in 2001. Averil obtained her specialist training in Endodontics at the University of Melbourne, graduating with a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in 2009. Averil works in specialist private practice in the Melbourne CBD.
Averil is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at the University of Melbourne and La Trobe University in Bendigo. Averil has lectured on a wide range of topics, including diagnosis and management of cracked teeth, prevention and repair of perforations and management of dental trauma, at regional and national levels. Averil has a special interest in the management of traumatic dental injuries and cracked teeth. Averil is a long-serving committee member for the Australian Society of Endodontology (Vic Branch), and is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Endodontists.
Dr Varun Garg

Dr Varun Garg is a registered Prosthodontist. He completed his Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Prosthodontics) from the University of Melbourne in 2017 and was the recipient of Dr Steele Award.
He maintains specialist private practices in Collins Street (Prosthodontic Group) and Tullamarine (Tullamarine Prosthodontics). He enjoys all aspects of Prosthodontics but has a keen interest in aesthetics, reconstructive and implant dentistry. He is also actively involved with prosthodontic teaching as a clinical supervisor at The University of Melbourne and various CPD programs.
Lecture Synopsis
Discoloured teeth always present a challenge in clinical practices. Whether it is a generalised discolouration or an isolated tooth, management needs critical thinking and precise execution. The aesthetic success in these cases often requires endodontic attention as well as a well-executed prosthodontic treatment plan. This lecture will cover the management of discoloured teeth from both the Prosthodontic and Endodontic perspectives.
