SYNOPSIS

Dentine hypersensitivity is one of the most common dental complaints encountered by dental practitioners. Aetiological factors include dental hard tissue loss via erosion, abrasion and attrition, gingival recession, anatomical variations, restorative micro-leakage via compromised dentine bonding and caries. Of these, post-operative symptoms following restorative procedures can be especially frustrating for patients. Dentinal hypersensitivity may be chronic and can cause significant patient distress and morbidity. There are a myriad of possible treatment options ranging from topical agents to restorative interventions, or even pulpotomy or pulpectomy.

This presentation will explore the pathways, mechanisms and management of Dentinal Hypersensitivity.
