Professor Paul Sambrook AM

Prof Paul J Sambrook graduated from The University of Adelaide with his BDS in 1985, MDS (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery) in 1990, and MBBS in 1993. He gained Fellowship to the Royal Australasian College of Dental
Surgeons, Section of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1990. Paul is the Director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Unit at SA Dental/Royal Adelaide Hospital/The University of Adelaide, and is the group leader of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the School of Dentistry, The University of Adelaide. He is also a Visiting Consultant to several major public hospitals and runs a busy specialist practice in Adelaide. Prof Sambrook has been and continues to be involved with the RACDS and is a past president.
Prof Sambrook is involved with the International Board for the Certification of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IBCSOMS) since its inception, serving on the steering committee and as its immediate past President.
He is a past president of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and also a member and fellow of a number of professional associations. He has lectured locally, nationally and
internationally in his discipline.
Lecture Synopsis
Prof Sambrook will discuss contemporary concepts in chronic pain diagnosis and management, and the essential role that dental practitioners play in the management of this condition. Differences to the management of acute pain will be discussed, with a focus on the philosophy that underpins management of this condition. Prof Sambrook will also provide a review of the current state of medication related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ) and its management.
